"ASK DET":

I'm here to attempt to answer your Goldeneye related questions, as well as your questions about the site.

Please keep your questions brief, and to the point, so I can reply to, and post as many as possible. Send your "Ask Det" questions to DetErest@detstar.com, with the subject as "Goldeneye: Ask Det".

I do post some of the questions I receive. If you would NOT like your question to be posted here, even though it's completely anonymous, just send it to DetErest@detstar.com, without using "Ask Det" in the subject line.

QUESTIONS

********************

Q: When is a site for Agent Under Fire on Game Cube going to open at Detstar? The sites for GoldenEye and Perfect Dark are kickass, so I hope an AUF site will open soon.

A: There are always new projects under construction... Nothing officially planned for a James Bond: Agent Under Fire website yet, but it is a possibility. I hate to give such sketchy details, but until a site is definite, it won't be confirmed.

Q: In the facility, if you blow up the gas tanks you die from it, but the guards are unaffected. Why is this?

A: If I were from Rareware, I'd tell you that the guards are actually wearing invisible gas masks...
But the most likely reason, is that since it causes you to lose health, you'll try and escape and finish the level. The guards aren't affected because they haven't been programmed to die from the gas, but they have been programmed to kill Bond.

Q: It's not really a question, but it is Goldeneye related. I was playin
goldeneye today and was about to start the facility. I read M's briefing and
i saw this: "THERE ARE NO WOMEN OR CASINOS FOR A THOUSAND MILES, 007, SO
EVEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CONCENTRATE ON THIS MISSION" i was wondering if
this could be another clue to the casino level that was not included or just
something in there regardless of whether or not there would be a casino
level. I didnt see this anywhere on your site, but if thats only because i
didnt look hard enough, sorry for bothering you. your site is awesome!

A: James Bond is very famous for his fondness of women and casinos... My guess
is that Rare included that bit about casinos, to make the game more
authentic towards James Bond's character.

Many people do believe that it's a clue towards a casino level though. It
could be that, and we'll never know for sure. But I have yet to find any
solid proof that a Casino level was ever created... I think it's most likely
that if the level ever was in the plans, it would have only been on paper,
never actually being implemented.

There are a bunch of devices and gadgets that have been found with
Gamesharks, including those which could have possibly been used in a Casino.
But of course, we'll never know what any of them were really intended for.

Q: Have you ever noticed that a bunch of levels like the silo, depot, and caverns are levels, but aren't in the goldeneye movie? Was there a reason why Rare made up these places? In the movie, Bond and Natalya find the control center right from the jungle without going through any place like the caverns.

A: When a film is turned into a video game, things are often changed or added, to make it fit better with the gameplay. In Goldeneye, some extra locations were added to make the missions more full. If these missions weren't included, the game could have only had 15 levels or so, instead of a full 20.

Q: I've found a lot of web pages that say that some characters for multiplayer are faster than others. I always thought that all the characters ran as fast as each other, but I'm starting to wonder now. Are there some characers that are faster than others?

A: As far as I know, all characters run at the exact same speed. I've seen many sites that claim otherwise though.
No one's been able to prove that any one character is faster than another. And to add to that, I haven't been able to find any differences at all. So, odds are that all characters have equal running speeds.

Q: When are the button codes for perfect dark going to be released, and why did they wait so long to release the codes for goldeneye?

A: Goldeneye challenged players to improve their skills to open bonus missions, and earn the coolest cheats. If the button codes were available, many players wouldn't have bothered to earn everything for themselves. The codes were actually hacked by Dr Ian before they were officially released.

As far as button codes go for Perfect Dark, I don't think we'll be seeing them anytime soon, if they even exist.

Q: Why did the bike get removed from the Runway, and get replaced by a tank? The bike was in the runway in the movie, and the tank was only in the streets.

A: The Goldeneye team had hopes of including the motorbike, but time constraints forced the bike to be scrapped. Programming the bike to drive properly would have likely delayed the game even further, so it was simply switched for a tank.

Q: I visited [A Goldeneye Site], and they inform visitors that the screenshots in your screenshot gallery are fake. I thought you intended them to be fake in the first place.

A: As I've stated at the top of my Screenshot Gallery, the screenshots in it were taken while not playing the game normally. So technically, almost all of them are "faked" with Gameshark codes. I'm amazed at the ignorance of that "webmaster", as the shots are obviously not intended to be real, yet he thinks he's intelligent or something for pointing them out as "fake".

Q: You talk about the memory on the cartridge. How did you get this screen? Please tell me how so I my self may look to see if I can uncover any mysteries. P.S.---I love your site I've never seen so much info. in one place, thanks for making it.

A: I'm glad to see that you enjoy the site. I've worked hard on it, and it's great that people appreciate it.

Since you don't know how to view the memory, I'm positive that you can't view it... You need a Gameshark Pro, and an N64 Expansion Pak. With the GS Pro, you can activate the code generator, then view the game's memory at anytime by pressing the GS button...

Q: Ask rare why people die when slapped. Wierd Eh?

A: I'm not sure why people can die from "fatal slaps". I think it's supposed to be Bond's deadly karate chop...

Q: Why do you hate the Klobb so? Sure it's weak, inaccuract, klunky, has no scope, a small clip, and a very annoying sound, but why? Everyone hates the Klobb, yet they don't realize how much heart it has. I mean, it was named after Ken Lobb! And nothing can beat flying at your friend shouting "It's Klobberin' time!"

A: Well, people don't really, absolutely HATE the Klobb... But because it's the weakest weapon in the entire game, and named after someone from NOA, it's just something easy to pick fun at. I never really thought about it like that before...

Q: Hey i was wondering a few things. how did you get into goldeneye and perfect dark game and beta version? how did you get all the info you you know about?

A: The beta stages of Goldeneye interested me the minute I first learned of it. Unfortunately, very few sites had much information on it, and it was always the same information, reused and recycled on every site. So, I decided it was necessary to include a huge beta section on the site that I was creating. How do I get all the info? From anywhere. Old movies, magazines, previews, and Gameshark hacking. All of those things produce 'beta evidence'.

Q: How come RARE replaced the casino level? I think that sucks alot. What I wanted to ask you was, if you could replace a level and play the level. And if possible you can find out if you can replace the silo.

A: You can't replace the Silo level. I wouldn't really want to replace it with anything either. If we had a Casino, and had lost a level where Bond ran through a missile Silo, we'd probably wish we had the Silo instead.

Q: Your site is my absolute favorite goldeneye website ever! Anyway, I was just wondering if you or anybody you know has played the beta version (I heard that SubDrag did). I would also like to know if you have, what was it like? How similar are our assumptions about the beta to the real beta? And finally, how did you (or whoever you know) get to use the beta version?

A: Thanks. I've worked very hard on the site, and I'm glad to see that so many people enjoy it.

Like I've said a hundred times over, there is no such thing as "the beta version". Beta is just the name for the stage in video games, when changes are being made, and bugs are being worked out. It's actually incorrect to call it a different, or secondary version of the game, because it's not a version, only a stage.

Every game receives changes in this stage, but Goldeneye seems to have been changed enormously, due to problems of making some things run smoothly, and efficiently. Sure, there are probably a cartridge or two left over from beta testing at Rare HQ, where you might be able to catch a glimpse of the old Bonds, or see an elevator in the silo. But nobody will ever touch them.

They probably wouldn't be all that great anyway, when you think about it. The game freezing up constantly whenever you try to use any of the objects or items that have since been deleted. (that's why so many things were removed in the first place). I would only be interested in having a peek for simple curiosity, as I'm sure many other GE fans would be.

Q: How do you get into the editor Memory in Goldeneye, I have a Gameshark, so what should I do????

A: You need both a Gameshark Pro and an N64 Expansion Pak.

Once you have both, you can just turn on the code generator option that shows up before you start your game, and the memory editor will be accessible by pressing the Gameshark button while you're playing.

Q: I was wondering what is the GS code for the BETA version. Thanks

A: Sigh. There is no such thing as "the beta version". Beta is just the name for the development stage when the game is being changed, and bugs are being worked out. It isn't a secodary version, or special edition release of the game. Gameshark merely allows us to change existing things in the game, to make them appear as they do in "beta" screenshots, providing that the beta item was not removed from the game's memory.

Q: When I use the go to the island on Dam I am going throw the buildings. Why is that?

A: It's because the Gameshark uses "no clipping" to get you to the island in the first place, by allowing you to pass through the invisible wall that's holding you on the dock, and preventing you from walking on the water. This makes you pass right through the buildings on the island. If you use no clipping and head for other buildings in the Dam level, you will go through them as well. Sometime doing this though, you will "slip", and come out of the clipping, back to normal.

Q: Who is Jimbo? He is not in the game.

A: Jimbo... The only Jimbo mentioned in the game, is when you radio Jack Wade. In the Goldeneye movie, Jack Wade helps out James Bond, but instead of calling him by his real name, he calls him Jimbo for whatever reason. This is why Wade calls Bond "Jimbo" in that transmission.

Q: That stupid gay Myron Goldeneye site is back. He's the one that started the cheating on the top 20 sites list, isn't he? Why did they let him back on?!!! It doesn't matter, because everyone knows that your site is the best site ever.

A: The Top 20 Goldeneye Sites was practically ruined forever when the site in question began it's massive cheating campaign. Naturally, other sites, and eventually including myself, added the same java script ourselves, to increase votes. This leaded to my site being first overall, because I get a large number of hits a day, and that script tallies one vote for almost every visitor. My site will no doubt be passed by that site again, as in the past. When people visit the list, they tend to only check out the first few sites. Lots of people have told me that they took forever to eventually visit my site because it apparently isn't that popular, if you look at the list. And the same people tell me that after they visit my site, they can't figure out why it's not that popular. Well, it is. The number of votes on the list a site receives has no meaning to the hundreds of satisfied people visit that site every day.

Q: I went under your pictures section tonight. I was wondering, are ALL these pictures faked by you? Are they ALL supposed to be fake? If so, why the heck did you fake this pic when you CAN get the tank on the Dam?

A: Yes, each and every one of the shots in my Screenshot Gallery was taken by me. Almost all of them are Gameshark, and a few you can actually pull off without. I don't get what you're saying about the tank on the Dam though. Yes, you can get the tank on the Dam. And yes, I took a screenshot of it. It all depends on your definition of fake. Technically, anything that uses a Gameshark is fake. But I guess since the Tank GS code is more well known than the rest of the pics there, it does make it "less fake". Ah well, it's a cool picture either way.

Q: Why didn't they make a Tommorrow Never Die game for N64? They skipped from Goldeneye all the way to TWINE... why?!?!?!?!

A: Each video game company is free to make any game they choose, for whichever system they choose. Rare only makes games for Nintendo, and they bought the license for Goldeneye. But when TND was released, Rare didn't want the license for it, so it was sold to another company, who chose to make it for the Playstation. The rights to the newest Bond film, were sold to EA and Eurocom, who chose to make the game for both N64 and Playstation.

Q: your site is the best. but in the beta version on the runway levle, i think it would be cool that the end cinima whould feture bond riding the bike off the cliff and caching up with the plane. like if a guy would come after u with a bike, and u shoot him, the bike falls, u go up to it and press B. then the mission whould end. what do u think?

A: Yes, cinema scenes are always welcome in video games. But I'm sure in Goldeneye it had something to do with the memory constraints. But Rare's newest game, Perfect Dark, makes use of the N64 expansion pak, which allows for more detail, and things like that.

Q: does rareware still update the beta version?

A: I've heard they do. But nothing major. Maybe just a "once in a while, just for fun thing". It has no use, but I wouldn't be surprised if they occasionally fool around on some of the beta carts, trying to make some things work, or play multiplayer with the lost Bonds... But they are a very busy company, so messing around with a project that will have no value is something they would not do often.

Q: Why In The World is everyone so hypo about all bonds?I mean why do you all like it?I think it would be a bad part of the game.I would much prefer >Citadel to Sean Connery or (shudder) George Lazenby.BORING!So could you tell me why everyone is hypo about it?

A: It's basically because it's something we can't have. We want what we can't have. And, EGM started this with their April fools 'All Bonds Cheat' code. Other people are obsessed with the Citadel level, when it was nothing but a rough level, that was taken out for good reason. The main point of interest is just the curiousity of what these things were like.

Q: I really like your site. I have two questions:

(1) I have been told by the guys at my local Funcoland that Game Shark can damage my nintendo 64 system. They also said it could damage my Golden Eye game. Is this true? My dad refuses to buy it because of this.

(2) What does AR stand for?

Thanks for you help.

A: In theory, yes, it can be true. But I have never heard of it happening. It does often erase your saved game files in some games, like Zelda, which I only tried once, and lost the file. It also depends on the kind of codes that you enter. Some of them really mess up the game, and cause it to crash, which can't be good for the game.

But I have never had a single problem like that with Goldeneye, possible because it's a much more simple, and less complex game to work with than Zelda.

Nintendo doesn't like people messing with their games, because of common sense: cheating, earning impossible scores, finding things left in the memory by accident...

And AR stands for Action Replay, which is a game enhancer in England.

Q: You've got a really cool site dude with a lot cool stuff. I'm just starting up a GoldenEye page of with my friend. We wanted to ask you if it would be ok to borrow some pics. We won't use a whole lot of them, just a enough to help us get started. If you'd be nice enough to let us do that we'd really appreciate it. Thanks for your time and keep up the great work on your site. Catch you later.

A: Thanks. I've worked really hard on the site. Yes, I usually do allow others to use a few of my screenshots, with credit of and a link of course.

Q: The only question i have is if you have a Gameshark code to have white walls instead of grey walls in the facility? im trying to make a facility as much beta like as i can and if i could get the white walls code, it would be complete. any help you could give me would be great.

A: No, sorry. I don't have a Gameshark code to make white walls. I can remove the shadows to make the level brighter: 800213C1 00A4 But, I don't have any codes to make white walls.

Q: do u think TWINE graphics look like mission impossible graphics?

A: Hmm... No, not really. But I do think that the graphics look MORE like Mission Impossible than they do Goldeneye.

Q: Do you think that THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH will change much before it comes out, like GOLDENEYE did?

A: No, I don't. All games receive changes before they are completed. But Goldeneye was almost a completely different game before it was released. Numerous things were changed and removed, for various reasons. Goldeneye received more changes and removed features than any other game has. But this happens to very few games.

Q: will TWINE have the rc-p90?

A: I have no idea, since I haven't played the game. I really doubt it will though, considering that the RC-P90 was a creation of Rare, only based on a real life gun. But... the real life RC-P90, the P-90, was featured in the TWINE movie... so it could possibly appear in the game...

Q: How many members are on the staff at this site? And how can I join?

A: There is no staff at this site. Everything is kept up by myself, with of course occasional suggestions and ideas from visitors. I have no plans for additional help; I finished a large amount of it before I even posted it on the web, and have expanded tremendously since then. Kind of late for putting together a staff.

Q: are you really making a world is not enough page? when will I be able to see it? I can't wait!

A: I have not confirmed anything for sure yet. Odds are very good, but I don't want to say anything unless my plans change. You COULD see it... but you'd need to figure out the URL...

Q: i have a little theory on the archives and library. the walls, walkways, and floors of the library look like the ones in the archives.there might be no connection or there could be more to the archives than we thought.

A: Yes, the levels both have identical walls. This is because when Rare made some of the multiplayer levels, they reused some of the mission levels as base formats or whatever. They made the stack from the archives, and the caves from the jungle.

Q: How do you get 007 mode?

A: You have to beat every single level as a 00 Agent, which will allow you to play Egypt, and after that's completed on 00 Agent, you can select to play 007.

Q: Hey man, your site rulz. In the Control, right when you get a glimpse of trevaylen escaping in the elevator, I noticed what appeared to me to be some sort of device attatched to the ceiling. It looked like it was used to move the metal crates around. I was wondering if there is any way to activate this, and how?

A: You must mean the orange crane. I really doubt that there would be any way to make it move. I think it was probably just put there for detail.

Q: who did u make your website with? it rocks! is it possible to access the vents in the silo without gameshark and if so how? thanks a lot. cool site

A: Nobody works at this site with me. And no, you can't get to the Silo vents without a Gameshark or Action Replay.

Q: Hey why dont the guns in multiplayer have bullets popping out of the slide or bolt like mission mode when you can see the shells? Laziness at Rare?

A: You might have noticed that the graphics and details are better in mission mode. When you play with more players, the quality has to be lowered a bit, so the game will run smoothly. Little things like the empty shells aren't necessary, so they're removed for a smoother game.

Q: Hey, Your site rulz. I was just wondering if you knew if Interact made plans to make a newer version of Gameshark sometime soon.

A: Not as far as I know. Gameshark Pro is the latest version, and I only see a few places for improvement in it. I've actually heard rumors that Interact may discontinue the Memory Editor feature. Why, I don't know. Maybe because messing around with the game like that causes problems for them???

Q: well how about the world is not enough are you going to make a site for that?

A: I would have to say the chances of me making a TWINE site, are greater than a site for PD. But it all depends on the time I have, and how much I like each game. I've already made a section for TWINE on my site, and if all goes well, it could turn into a site of it's own.

Q: are you going to be making a site for perfect dark??? Please say yes!

A: A very common question that I've received. I haven't officially announced anything, because if I change my mind, I will be "lying". The most likely thing that will happen, would be myself being part of another Perfect Dark Site, but not having my own. But who knows?

Q: i can't vote for your site. I click on the top 20 goldeneye sites thing thatu tell me to click, but it brings me to the sites. is that supposed to takeme there? and if so, i can't find a place to vote for your site. where do ivote? please respond soon cuz i really want toi vote for u!!!!!!!!!!!!

A: Yes, you're doing everything correctly. Clicking the link, takes you to the top 20 sites, and adds a vote to my site's account. You don't need to do anything at all while you're there.

Q: Why does Xenia have silver on the chest of her shirt? Boobs of steel?

A: Sigh. Xenia commented about this little trait involving her assets, and said "Yes. Boobs of steel." Of course we will never know why they're like that. Attention perhaps?

Q: Is there any way to play the cradle in the multiplayer mode without gameshark?

A: No. Sorry, only available if you have Gameshark, or Action Replay (a British video game enhancer)

Q: I LOVE YOUR SITE MAN IS JUST THAT THERE IS ONEPROBLEM. i CAN'T GET THE ALL BONDS CHEAT. i HAVE AGAME SHARK V.2.1 BUT STILL DOEST,T WORK IS THERE ABUTTON I NEED TO PUSH OR SOMETHING ??? Please I really need your help. Desperate Fan in need of the Great Det !!!!

A: You can't earn the All Bonds cheat. You must have found this on another site, because my version of the code, isn't a cheat, it only replaces Natalya, Trevelyan, and Xenia with three of the former Bonds. That code will work, I assure you. But a code to have the cheat, is no doubt a fake.

Q: What is a game shark? How does it work and where do I get one? Is it expenses? I'm interested in the things it can do. You have a great site.

A: A Gameshark is a video game enhancer. It allows you to change the way the game "thinks", and create and customize the game to your liking. A Gameshark sells for about $60 US. As far as I know, they should sell them at any WalMart, where they Nintendo 64s.

Q: is there any way to keep gameshark codes saved onto the game perminantly like cheat codes are?

A: No. All Gameshark codes will work only when the Gameshark is used, with the codes turned on. It would be cool for some things to save, but after repeatedly using a glitched up code a few times, you'd likely not want to have it permanently in your game.

Q: I went into the GE Beta board and found that someone was searching in GoldenEye's memory. Will you tell me how? I would like to know because I want to hack Rare's files and see if I can get the citadel. And if I succeed, I will send you a link to the page. I know you will say it's impossible, but you never know. On the internet, nothing's impossible.

A: You need a Gameshark Pro, and an N64 expansion pak. This will allow you to view the memory with the blue screen, like in my GS Memrory Editor sections. But this allows you to have a look at the memory of any game you choose... I don't see how you could use it to hack Rare's files on the Internet though.

Q: At the end of the train (where you rescue Natalya), Trevelyan and Xenia escapes. If you escape from the train quick enough, you'll see the train's top opened, you can hear the sound of a helicopter taking off, but there is no helicopter. Was there ever a helicopter there?

A: As far as I'm concerned, there is not, and never was a helicopter there. The sound is there, of course, but I'm sure it was just added to make the situation more realistic, knowing that while you're messing with the floor, that Alec and Xenia are taking off with a chopper, meaning that when you escape, you won't find them nearby.

Q: Where are you on the top 20 list, what happened?

A: I'm summing up all these top 20 related emails in one response: The creator of the Top 20 Goldeneye Sites failed to notice that a site was using special scripts to earn easy votes. One by one, the other sites including myself also used these scripts, because we thought that if it was considered cheating, than the other site should have been removed by now. Months later, every site who has used the script was deleted. Some of us have been allowed to return by removing the script, and the original site to use this script has returned, and is again using the script, and has not been removed from the list.

Q: Could you please get some music from the game on your website?

A: I did have music for every level as one of my sections, but it was deleted due to lack of popularity. I should record and post a few themes from the game, but that depends if I ever get around to it.

Q: I like your site, but I think it would better if there was music playing.

A: I would like to add music to my website, but my main page does take quite a while to load, especially for people with slow modems. Music would slow this down even more. I could create an awesome site if I didn't have to worry about loading time!

Q: Hey, I was just wondering if you'd noticed a weird thing about the Egyptian's reflecting pool. You know the one where you start out in the level? Well, if you shoot the reflection it goes all the way down. Why doesn't it make a bullet hole or something? It hits a pillar if you aim for one but it's reflecting counterpart doesn't show the signs of damage that the one below does. Does this mean there is another area down stairs? Or is it just a bug they never got rid of.

A: Just a bug that the programmers did not fix. It appears it would be too difficult to have a real mirror effect, so they created actual pillars below to simulate the effect. You can also shoot the real pillar, and see no mark in the reflection.

Q: I wanted to know [In Perfect Dark], when you say some levels will be kept, like Facility, Complex and Temple. Do you mean parts of the level will be kept or the whole level? But it would be cool to see the Goldeneye levels revived.

A: I actually stumbled on the info about the Complex and Temple on Rareware's site. From what I understand, they will be the complete levels that appeared in Goldeneye, and I can't wait to see how they've re-textured and modified them.

The Facility however, as I mentioned, was just something that someone sent to my mailbox. Up until then I hadn't heard a thing about it. And I don't visit many PD Sites, they're all kinda lame, with the same info. I'll be more into it when the game comes out, and sites can find their own info by playing the game themselves.

Q: I was wondering if there are any pictures that can replace pictures in the Multiplayer character select screen with a Gameshark. I mean, change the guard's question mark picture to an actual picture of the guard and so on.

A: Well, not exactly. Pictures of guards were never programmed into the game. There are mission select pictures, as well as the pics of the main characters. But since the actual guard pictures were never made, there is no way to change the question marks to pictures.

Q: Why didn't rare put the tank in Multiplayer? They could just add the Runway or the Streets as a Multiplayer level that includes the tank. I don't think it would slow the game down on two players, and on 3 or 4 players, the level just won't be there like the Egyptian. That would add more action and more fun to the Multiplayer mode.

A: Actually, that's not a bad idea. My opinion, is that they simply didn't think about it. It would be cool to challenge your friends with Tanks, rather than weapons. Probably, the programming would need to be fixed for dying, starting points, ect. But I agree, maybe just one or two levels to have a tanks only battle.

Q: I just noticed something on the watch in Goldeneye. if you look at the top part, it says Q Watch v2.01 BETA. could this be linked with the beta version?

A: Actually, James Bond's official watch, is an Omega... Omega is the name of a character in the Greek alphabet. Beta is also a letter in the Greek alphabet. Rare just made the change, so they wouldn't have to pay any royalties to use the name.

Q: We know that PD has kept some of the levels from Goldeneye, & we know that Facility is one of the levels kept, but what I want to know is: Is it the ENTIRE Facility or a GUTTED version? I've heard that Rare has taken out everything that lead up to & including the bottling room.

A: Actually, I haven't heard that. I only knew about Complex and Temple. If it is, I would have to guess that it would be the "gutted" version, but that's just my guess. If it was the whole thing, then we might get a bit too attached to the level or something. Would they have to include the doors upstairs? Or how about the bottling tanks? Or the doors to the exit of the level? Too many things for us to complain about, wanting this and that included into this game that were really from another game. So back to my original theory, I would think it would be the not even half section that we have for Multiplayer in Goldeneye.

Q: My question is about the scientist in Facility. There's a scientist that runs from his lab into a bathroom stall. Why does he do that? Did he have to go to the bathroom or something? Was he a double agent? Did that used to be Dr. Doak but then they scrapped the idea of him running to you but they left his motion for another scientist?

A: You do know that the Scientist there carries the security "A" card, right? This will allow you to open any door without activating a computer. This was put in, just in case you managed to destroy the computer to open the first door, and couldn't go through it. Instead of a complete mission failure, you are able to wait a couple minutes and hold the guy at gunpoint and steal his card.

Q: In the bunker 2, you have to get the CCCP video. How come it's the Goldeneye movie? Did MGM studios pay to put it in there so they'll make more money?

A: Ah, yet again that shows Rare's sense of humor. I don't know if MGM would have gotten more money or not. The way I see it, it's free advertising. And I guess kind of a "reward" for any gamer who actually noticed what the tape really looked like.

Q: I think your site rules. I think it should # 1. It has really cool stuff. How do you come up with this stuff, and how can I get pictures to your site? And how do you know all these cheats? I believe all your cheats are true, but I'm just wondering.

A: Thanks. I come up with this stuff with whatever I can get my hands on, and ideas I get e-mailed from visitors. How can you get pictures to my site? Just send them ATTACHED to an e-mail to me. And I know the cheats because I've earned them all, like many other people have done.

Q: Why did Rare change the game a lot? i know that it was slow or complicated, but the beta version looks so cool and better and i like a good challenge like if you had to shoot down the helicopter in Jungle, or blow up the drone gun on the dam's secret island. The beta version should really be called the "Better" version.

A: If you're willing to stop and really think about this for a second, it'll make sense to you..

We see all the things that have changed, and since we are a bit tired of the game we have, we'd do anything to own a game with these minor changes. Imagine if we'd had those Archives doors in the Facility all along, and then we saw beta shots of a bathroom with blue stall doors... We'd wish the game was like that.

Aside from minor details though, there are other things that really would have made the game better, like the All Bonds, The Island & Boat, The motorbike, Xenia taking off on the Frigate, Xenia's Chopper in the Jungle, and many more that I can't even name, due to the large number.

I've explained the All Bonds solution on my latest update, All Bonds

section. But the other good aspects of the beta version weren't changed because they were bad ideas, but because of serious problems with them.

Example, the motorbike would have been difficult to pull off, having a guard ride one, while you chased him in a first person shooter wouldn't work. How would the bike stop? If you didn't catch it, and it fell after you shot the guard, how would you stand it back up? How would you dismount with realism? All of these problems would have made the bike driving awkward, and special software would have been needed to make it all run smoothly, so the team decided to go the easy way out and throw in the tank, and forget about the bike.

Q: Why doesn't the instruction booklet list all of the weapons? Like the shotgun, auto shotgun, moonraker laser (military laser), tank, golden gun, gold PP7, or silver PP7?

A: I could explain why those extra weapons were not included, simply because they are not part of the Goldeneye mission. But the absence of the Shotgun, now that can't be explained. Most likely, it was added to the game much later. The weapon list in the booklet is obviously old, because it has both the Fighting Knife and the Spyder.

Q: Do you know a cheat to get the Hawk Gun? Or how about the Spyder Gun?

A: You must be thinking of the name Blackhawk Magnum. It was renamed to the Cougar Magnum before the game was completed. Same goes for the Spyder, which has been renamed "Klobb", after NOA's Ken Lobb.

Q: I have just noticed something. Since the Library is the Stacks and Basement all in one, and their select pictures are the same. So what I'm saying is i think it was a beta level!

A: That's a really great theory actually, and other people think so as well. Just the concept of them (Stack and Basement) being involved seems suspicious. I've heard that it contained both Oddjob and Mayday, but again, those are just rumors. I could imagine Mayday in the upper Stacks and Oddjob in the Basement though... But there is one interesting point for all of this. Mayday and Oddjob both died in Bond films... Jaws and Baron both survived. Perhaps that was why those two were kept. It was actually Ian Rogers who noticed that about the famous villains.

Q: I once saw on a site that had a question "Why is there a monkey in train?" and they answered that there are no wild life in the game. My question is though, was wild life ever intended to be in the game?

A: Now that's going just a bit too far. Rare was just showing off their sense of humor on that one. Did they make up and include that question themselves? Probably. That's just the way Rare is.

Q: If Rareware would have "chosen" to do another "Bond, James Bond" game from either of the two latest James Bond movies, we'd more than likely have a new Rare game by now.

A: Rare must really be stubborn. They would make a fortune, as gamers would buy any Bond game that Rare made the instant it hit the shelves. They wanted to come up with their own original characters, rather than use existing and popular characters. Why not at least stick with familiar ones? I doubt that Rare will ever make a game based on a past Bond film, and from what I've heard, the rights to the newest flick, The World is Not Enough have been sold to another company. But Rare would rather make their own characters, and use their own ideas, rather than stick with the restrictions of a movie story line. But Rare is already rich, so they'll do just as they please, regardless of what we think.

Q: Maybe Rareware needs to have restrictions put on them by making a game based on a movie because obviously just letting them make a game "where they let their imaginations run wild" isn't working.

This is my personal opinion, if Rareware really wanted to make a game on an "improved engine" of Goldeneye, why not re-do Goldeneye? Or make another James Bond game from a past movie on the "Improved engine"?

A: Rare must really be stubborn. They would make a fortune, as gamers would buy any Bond game that Rare made the instant it hit the shelves. They wanted to come up with their own original characters, rather than use existing and popular characters. Why not at least stick with familiar ones? I doubt that Rare will ever make a game based on a past Bond film, and from what I've heard, the rights to the newest flick, The World is Not Enough have been sold to another company. But Rare is already rich, so they'll do just as they please, regardless of what we think.

Q: Is Rareware really extending the April 10th release date to May 22nd? I'm starting to doubt if Rareware can even deliver Perfect Dark.

A: To be honest, I know as much as you do. They're constantly delaying the game, so don't be surprised if we don't get to play it until summer starts. Perfect Dark should have been out now, but it keeps getting pushed back a month at a time. I think that video game companies SHOULD NOT post release dates for upcoming games, until development is nearly complete. They should say "Summer of 2000" or something like that, instead of an exact date, like "April 12". And they should give themselves plenty of time when estimating completion. Surely nobody would complain if a game was completed before schedule. But back to your question, I haven't heard the official word, but the last date I heard was April. I fully believe that it was pushed to May 22nd though, only because I expected it to be pushed back again.

Q: I know that in the beta Dam, you had to use a Russian green boat to get to the island. But, did the boat had its own path to go on the island (like the truck to the third guard tower), or did you had to drive it there (like the tank)? If it had its own path, then how did you had to activate the boat when you got inside, did it started going by itself, or did you had to press the B button to activate it.

A: Rare would have wanted using the boat to be a fun experience. But this proved to be difficult to do, and having the boat on a set course would be no fun at all, so unfortunately for all of us, the whole idea was removed.

Q: How do you know the blocked door on the Dam doesn't lead to the blocked door on runway?" & if you know: "why doesn't RareWare answer emails about Goldeneye 007?" meaning why can't/won't they tell us the idea behind the stuff they couldn't/wouldn't keep in Goldeneye? Personally they could have kept off the last two NON-missions & kept allot of things in the mission part of the game.

A: Both the Dam and Runway doors look identical. So most people would think that they open to one another, connecting the two levels. But if you think about it, you're actually very high up on the Dam, then you jump down extremely far to the height of the Facility. The Runway is the exit of the Facility, so it would be roughly the same height, making it impossible for the two doors to connect to each other.

And Rare refuses to cough up any decent answers to any real questions. Personally, I think it's because they are a major company, and we're all just a bunch of morons who will buy their games no matter what. And revealing answers points out their own mistakes and flaws as to why things weren't included, and it makes them seem less professional. And to top it off, any questions they answer would be followed by two questions for each answer, and so on. I think they should at least clear up a few major things, but they refuse to comment on anything.

Q: I was looking at the beta bit of your site and you said the guns used to have there real names. Well if this is true calling the KF7 the old KF7 is wrong. Shouldn't you call it the AK-47 of something then.

A: I've discovered that the K-F7 was in fact called the AK47. But we've also come to accept that particular weapon as "the old KF7". That's basically what it is. I could go and change it, but I don't think it's completely wrong to call it that. Maybe just a bit incorrect, that's all.

Q: My friends and I think the game should have more blood. What do you think?

A: Of course, I think the game needs more blood, like it originally had. It had to be "cleaned up" to get the +13 instead of the +18 age rating. It's not like it makes a difference though. I'll bet a large number of GE Players are under 13 anyway. I'm not saying that it needs buckets of blood to be a good game, but a little bit more red stuff would add to the realism of the game.

If you played the game Rainbow Six, you need an incredible amount of stealth and planning to beat it. If you are shot once, you're dead. (unless you're shot in the foot, or something) Do you like that? (compared to Goldeneye's health meter and "gung-ho" shooting)

A: It's hard to say actually. It can be fun to sneak around, as if you were a real live agent wanting to live, without being shot several times and still be able to complete the mission. Personally, I like the Goldeneye style better, but I can take a liking to the other, non-forgiving style too. It all depends how you feel. If I feel like tearing up the place blowing guys away, then Goldeneye is fine. But sometimes I try and be a stealthy agent, so I set it on 007 mode with accurate settings to make it challenging, so I have to be really sneaky and careful.

Q: When you use the destroy everything code with a GS or AR, Bond shoots with a laser beam to destroy things with it, but where did the laser came from? It's similar to the watch's laser, but the watch's laser doesn't shots holes, and it have a short range. Was that the laser beam of the beta Taser or the beta Laser Watch?

A: I don't think that code is based on a weapon at all. It just makes Bond constantly shoot, and the bullets can destroy everything. I think a code could be found so that you can shoot bullets like that regularly.

Q: In Multiplayer, is it possible to access the Silo vents using the Aztec, Silo, Streets code and the Silo vent code? I would really find that interesting. Thank you!

A: It should be possible. But I don't think that anyone has found it yet. Multiplayer levels are different locations in the game's memory than the mission levels are. So a completely different code would have to be hacked. SubDrag?

Q: I've been trying to do something in Gameshark. I've been trying to make characters from Austin Powers 2 by modifying them and have come up unsuccessful. Dr. Evil worked, but Mini-me and Fat Bastard didn't. For Mini-me I was trying to put scientist 1's head on Oddjob's body. For Fat Bastard I have been trying to put the red-headed guy's head on Valentin's body. Could you help me out? I would really appreciate it.

A: Sorry, that can't be done. There are certain bodies that come with the heads attached, and they can't be separated. Oddjob and Valentin are among them. Their heads and suits aren't needed anywhere else in the game, so they were never separated, and must be kept together.

Q: I just looked at you site and I just have to say I like the "Ask Det" part! I also noticed something in you screen gallery, how did you get in the tower in the jungle? was it a game shark code?

A: So you want to know how it's done huh? Well, a magician never reveals his tricks... But since you seem to be a good "fan" of my site, I'll e-mail you with the code that you want to know. [Message "Here it is" has been sent]

Q: I heard that The World is Not Enough, will come out on N64, but maybe the maker won't be Rare, is that true? (If it is than it won't be as good as Goldeneye).

A: I'm sorry, but you didn't ask in the form of a question... Yes, The World is Not Enough is under development for N64, but unfortunately, Rare will not be making it. Rare likes to create new characters, as you might of notice, they very Rarely produce sequels. No doubt that they would make the best possible game out of the movie, but they don't want to. Think of the money they would make! Are they insane? Yes.

Q: Is it possible to change GS codes into AR codes. If you can do that, can you send me the get out of Bond's body code, as an AR code. Thanks.

A: It is possible to calculate for AR codes, but it's very complicated, and very uneven. You have to add/subtract certain digits from the location of the effect that you are trying to make in the game's memory. There are different numbers to add/subtract for each section of the memory, which makes it really tough. The MCM, which allows you to leave your body, is not available for AR though.

Q: Why did Ken Lobb get a gun named after him and the others did not?

A: I am sure I don't know. It's a very good question though, I would love to hear the Reason why from Rare. My best guesses are that he was a special help on the Goldeneye project, and they thought his name would sound good for a gun.

Q: I don't understand, that on the Multiplayer of Goldeneye, you can't use double weapons. Was this once in the Beta version, and taken out because of memory problems. I can't get any answers from Rare, I think they are sick of Goldeneye, because they get the most e-mails about it. Do you know anything about it?

A: We all know that we can get All Guns in Multiplayer with a Gameshark or Action Replay. But, the guns are singles, and not the doubled ones that we get in mission. This leaves me to believe that you were able to have All Guns in Multiplayer as a Cheat, but it probably ran too slow in some levels, so they were singled, then removed. But we can re-activate them, appearing only as single weapons.

Q: If there probably was Oddjob and Mayday do you think that Oddjob threw his bladed hat at you? what do you think?

A: I can't really imagine hat throwing in Goldeneye 007. I mean it just wouldn't work out. I think he just came after you with a gun. Maybe that's why he was taken out, because the hat-throwing animation just wouldn't work. And he would have to go get his hat after he threw it, the animation of him picking up his hat would be hard too.

Q: Is there a way to get all levels in Multiplayer with 4 players? All of the levels do not show up (the last row is blacked out) I do not have a Gameshark. Is there anything i can do?

A: Nope, you can't play those without a Gameshark. I actually read a similar question on Rare's Site. It's basically because they thought the levels moved too slowly with 3 or 4 players, so they made it unavailable to play with that many. You can use GS codes to play them, but some of them are pretty slow, like Egypt with 4 players. They're still not horrible though.

Q: What exactly is The Beta version? I've heard a lot about it but I can't find anywhere that explains what it is. Please write me back.

A: The Beta version means the unfinished version of any game. Goldeneye was changed around quite a bit since it's Beta version, before it was completed. Some things that caused problems or serious glitches in the beta version were left out of the final version of the game. You can't get the beta version, only look at pictures taken when the game was still in development. But some people still claim to own the beta version, but they are lying. Why would Rare release copies of an unfinished glitchy game?

Q: I know I've asked before, but how do you use bond's arm as a club, and cam you show me a picture of it? Thanx.

A: Yeah, sorry. If I don't reply or follow through with a promised screenshot, ect., just ask again, because I'm always busy, and it's nearly impossible to remember everybody's questions, ect.

Here's the shot I promised, from Oddjob's Goldeneye Site.

Q: I have Gameshark and I can't leave my body! Help me out here. I bought Gameshark because of that code. Please help me man.

A: You probably double checked the codes, right? After you've correctly entered to code, go to any level and spot where you want to leave your body. Once there, press TOP and BOTTOM C to bring up the Master Menu. The first option MOVE VIEW is highlighted, so press start to leave your body and move around. To return, again press TOP and BOTTOM C, then down twice on the D-Pad to highlight BOND VIEW and press Start.
