THE BETA CONTROL:
Exact
quote from Nintendo Power magazine, in an issue previewing Goldeneye
007:
"Ourumov
may have destroyed the Space Weapons Control Center in Severnaya, but
a secondary control center is hidden in Cuba. Bond must infiltrate the
heavily defended facility and disable the computer system before the second
GoldenEye satellite destroys London. This facility is the most heavily
fortified structure in the game, complete with robotic gun turrets and
M16-toting guards."
|
|
Very
few beta shots of the Cuban Control Center exist, but the best known one
is above, the one that appears on the back of the game's box. To the left,
is a shot from the final version. We can see that there were shade changes
to the floors, walls, ect. Also, the blue sliding door has been replaced
by the barrier door. What is that door used for anyway? It really doesn't
need to be there...
In the above statement from
Nintendo Power, they mention M16 toting guards. Of course that
was the former name of the AR33. But the guards in this level don't use
AR33s, but the D5K Deutsche.

Here's
the mission select pic for the Control. Notice how there isn't much glass
surrounding the main Control room. You can easily destroy the glass, but
I don't think they would include a destroyed level shot for the breifing...

Here's
something interesting about the vent shaft I mentioned before in this
section... I questioned the purpose of the ventillation shaft, where Boris
disappears. In the Goldeneye movie, this is where Bond and Natalya enter
the Control Center from. This makes it quite a possibility that this could
have been an original starting point for the level.

|
 I
can actually picture the Control without the part at the start, and having
only the main control room, and the two other rooms. It all fits together
perfectly. Thanks to MKart64MJR@aol.com
for noticing this in the
movie.

Another
strange thing is these doors. They're elevator doors... yet this is not
an elevator. Very strange. Why not just have a regular sliding up door?
Is it possible that this was once the level exit? I'm really stumped on
this one.
|
|
 Another
one of those things that was probably just added for detail. It's a giant
crane, hanging from the ceiling. I can't imagine anything like this having
a use, but you never know.
|
|
Probably
just another thing to make the level more interesting. This skylight is
overlooking Boris's work station. It has no practical use at all, but
guards won't shoot over it, so you can.
|
|
On
the opposite side of Boris's escape route, is this dead end. There is
a faint square at the end of this route. Nothing more. You can tell it’s
an indent of some sort. But what for?
