THE BETA JUNGLE:

This, like many other levels, doesn't have any beta shots, at least ones with any significance. All we have for this level is what's been left behind.

 

This huge tower, which we've all noticed has no use whatsoever. Is it there for detail? Probably not. It's too much of an object to be solely for detail. I've heard that there were once Commandos with M16s up there, which seems believable. I also heard that they were removed because of difficulties of having them there. It doesn't sound like they would have been difficult to include. You can see the opening in the right picture, like a doorway to it.

 

Also, I heard that there was a ladder that led up to the tower. The tower is not just for show, as you can see, I'm inside it here. Heh. You can look at the floorboards, and out the side windows of it. Would you have had to stay up there to snipe Jungle Commandos?

 

If this tower really was for detail, (and I doubt that), then the inside graphics should disappear once viewed from the inside. One thing, is the roof of the structure, which is pieces of metal put together, with gaps making leaves come through.

 

A strange thing is the bridge where you fight Xenia. Quite different than in the movie. And also very lame. But, easier to program it this way. I think at one time, the team at least intended for Xenia to be dropped off by a chopper, and Bond would fight her on the ground, as the whole shooting the pilot thing would have been hard to include. Nintendo quote: "Xenia Onatopp is in the vicinity. Don't let her get the drop on you, 007." That sounds pretty suggestive that she was intended to attack from above, just like in the GoldenEye movie.

 

Here is something very strange. I'm sure that this is the bridge in the level. But doesn't it look different to you? And is that the Jungle tower to the right of the black and white pic? Compare it with the one now, and it's nothing like it at all.

 

Here is a Beta chopper, that can only be seen in the game with a Gameshark. I'm sure that this was the chopper that Xenia was dropped from in the Jungle. It's a really cool machine to look at, with awesome cammo patches.

 

I really like this chopper! It has a red star on the side, just like the green Beta boat. Also, it has a drone gun mounted on the front.

*New evidence strongly suggests that this chopper may very likely have also been intended for the end of the train level. It could have also been reused here, considering that Xenia leaves in it from the Train. This would make it easily possible for her to then appear from the same chopper in the next level. See Beta Train section.
