THE BETA STATUE:

Gameshark code:
81044E38 3333
81044E3A 3301
Code by Wreck7 |
A new beta Gameshark
code has been hacked by Wreck 7. The beta statue featured
a brighter, grey sky. This made the level look more like daytime
than night time.
The code makes the sky look grey and cloudy. It's just nice
for a change, to give the level a different atmosphere.

Exact quote from Nintendo
Power in an issue previewing Goldeneye:
"Looking
for clues, Bond arranges a meeting with the mysterious underworld
weapons dealer named Janus. Janus agrees to meet with 007 in the
dark shadows of the Soviet Union's forgotten monuments. During
the meeting, Bond discovers that Janus is actually Alec Trevelyan,
formerly Agent 006, the man he left for dead in the Arkangel Chemical
Weapons Facility. Trevelyan intends to make sure Bond won't reveal
his secret of connections to General Ourumov. The monument graveyard
is a treacherous and foreboding maze of statues, with unseen dangers
lurking behind every chunk of broken mortar."

Again,
little is known about this Beta level. But we can see from this shot here
that it's bright outside- well at least compared to what the level is
now. There's a fog over the level, which is a major difference.
Another obvious one is the Statue
of Lenin. There are objects behind and in front of it, which aren't there
now. In fact, it's practically against a wall in the final version, but
here, you can see there's space behind that statue.

 In
these two shots, left and right, we can see where I think Lenin's statue
was, near the hill, and beside the star. In the right shot, we can see
Lenin's Statue alone in the open, with no statues around it. Screenshots
are non beta.

|
Here's
another Beta shot of Lenin's Statue. You can see that it’s surrounded
be junk and statues. I think this end part of the level was changed around
a lot. before it was completed. Compare it with Lenin's Statue now, on
the above right shot. Maybe it has been changed like that to make the
meeting place easier to find.
|
What's
strange about this location, is that nothing like it exists in the final
game. I mean the hammer and sickle things are there, and so is the rough
stone wall, but not together here like this. A lot of statue rearranging
has been done. |
|
Yet another Goldeneye Beta shot emerges. This on has little significance,
other than it was taken in development of the game. The guard of course
has a scar-face, but that's about all. It's too dark to see much behind
him.
Thanks to SubDrag for this shot.

|
Another
non beta shot that I took, shows another statue that looks a bit like
Lenin's statue. I don't know why it's there, maybe just to try and throw
you off from locating the real Lenin Statue. It’s enclosed in the wooden
braces just like the real statue.

We've
all noticed that you can't find the St. Petersburg Guards anywhere in
the game. For some reason I think that they were intended to be put here.
I don't think they ever were here though. Early beta shots show the Infantry.
The Infantry were early guards in the game's levels, but they were kept
instead of removed in certain levels, like Silo and Statue. So I think
the St. Petersburg Guards were made to be here, but just never included.
|
|
 Again,
another apparent level where you could use an AR33 Assault Rifle, which
at the time would have been a M16 Commando Rifle. We can't really tell
what Bond is doing here. I've included a "now" screenshot, right, and
it could just be the coloring, but the wall seemed a lot rougher in the
beta shot. Also, it looks like more objects have been added to the wall's
right. You can see behind in the right shot.
|
|
 Other
non beta shots show other strange things. Like a shed with shop machines,
a Band Saw and a Table Saw. To the right is what could possibly be a Surface
hut. These things were probably just added to add some more junk to the
level, but you never know.
