THE GADGETS IN GOLDENEYE 007:

Desmond Llewelyn, better known as Q from the 007 movies, was in a car crash on Sunday, December 19, 1999. He later died in hospital at the age of 85. We will always remember him from many previous James Bond films, because he appeared in 17 of the entire 19. Q was always there, inventing gadgets for 007, and became a very important character in the series. I've dedicated this section of my site to him.

I'm going to start off this section, with a few of Q's gadgets from the Goldeneye movie. To the left, is the piton gun, from the beta version of the game. In the movie, Bond uses it to latch onto the grate at the bottom of the Dam, and reel himself in from his Bungee jump.

Left, Bond's Micro Camera, used for spying... can zoom in to get close up shots. Used to take an ID picture of Xenia Onatopp.

Right, Q's new device, an exploding pen. 3 clicks, and it's armed! It's what makes Boris meet his fate at the end of the movie in the Control Center.

GADGETS FROM GOLDENEYE 007:

Convert Modem: Dam

In your inventory, is the convert modem, which you need to install beside the computer screen that's behind the guardhouse. Not at all a hard to complete objective, just don't miss, because you won't be allowed to pry it off and try again!

Door Decoder: Facility

This isn't one of Q's gadgets, but it's an interesting little device. Bond gets the door decoder from the Double Agent, Dr. Doak. On Secret Agent and higher, Bond needs it to crack the bottling room security door.

Camera: Bunker 1, Silo

Twice during the game, Bond must take a picture of an object in a level. The first is the Bunker screen, the second is in the next level, the Silo, where he has to photograph the satellite.

Key Analyzer: Bunker 1

Bond has to recover the Goldeneye key, and analyze. It's just lying on the computer table where Boris is working. Not at all a hard objective to complete. Just select the Analyzer, and hit Z, then toss away the original after you've finished.

Datathief: Bunker 1

After Bond gets Boris to disable the security on the computer mainframe, he uses the datathief to download data from the computer. It's not hard to do, but you should leave as soon as you've started to download; the alarm goes off, and you will be ambushed.

Plastique: Silo

Bond is given Plastiques to plant in the fuel rooms of the Silo. They are to explode after Bond safely leaves. Q reminds Bond about what happened to 004... Be sure not to shoot a plastique off the wall, unless you're Invincible that is.

Bomb Diffuser: Frigate

On the Frigate, there are Bombs in the Bridge, and the Engine Room that Bond must defuse. The bombs are the same graphics as the plastiques from the Silo. Bond just has to get out the Bomb diffuser, and press B when near a bomb to diffuse it.

Tracker Bug: Frigate

Bond must plant the tracker but on the Pirate helicopter. No challenge at all, just like installing the modem. But wait, the bug is the exact same thing as the modem, just look at it... It's also the same as the micro-camera that you can get with a Gameshark.

Watch Magnet Attract: Bunker 2, Archives

For some reason, the magnet just appears in the captive James Bond's inventory. He can move things close to him with it, like a cell key... In the Archives, he can get his gun. But, the gun is useless without ammo, so why is it there?

Watch Laser: Train

Isn't it funny how Bond can get a new weapon he didn't have before? It happens again in the Train. Bond has the watch laser to escape through the floor hatch after Trevelyan locks him and Natalya in the train, ready to explode. Bond must be psychic...

Guidance Data: Aztec

Not really a gadget, it's just a computer disk. But still, it appears in the inventory, and Bond has to use it to reprogram the shuttle guidance. That is, after getting the smart card from Jaws cold dead fingers.

Launch Protocol (DAT): Aztec

The DAT tape, is found inside the sealed glass, accessed with Jaw's SMART CARD. The DAT is used on the mainframe to begin launch of the shuttle.
