THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND IN THE DAM:

Of all the levels in the game, the Dam is definitely the one that has undergone the most changes. And being lazy, Rare just left a lot of the things behind, like the mysterious tower.

Here is my personal collection of the Dam's island screenshots, and information on it. We all know that you can reach the Island with a the Gameshark No Clipping code, when at the end of the docks, and using the no clipping code by pressing L & R:

D006 4F31 0030, 800D 33ED 0050, 880D 33ED 0000

You can also use this code when on the Dam itself, and maybe a little down a guard tower's stairs, so when you get to the island, You'll be able to be on the tower's walkway. You're not really there, you can float anywhere, and make it look like you're on the tower.

It's very strange that the island was not deleted from the final game. Rare just left it there. It can be seen with a Sniper Rifle, if you don't have a Gameshark. You can shoot paintballs and bullets at it, and leave marks on it.

I don't know what it is about the island that gets so much interest. It's an eerie, mysterious location that we're not supposed to be able to go to. The first time I ever heard that it was possible to get there, was from a magazine, that said there was a Gameshark code. I couldn't believe it, but there were screenshots there to prove it. Then, I found lots more screens on the net. I finally got a Gameshark for myself, and it was the very first code that I tried.

The Island's Purpose:

As we know, each level underwent changes before they were finished. Some levels were changed more than others. The Dam was originally a very long level. Besides destroying the green truck, you were required to go all the way to the island, destroy it's alarm, and come back. After the game was tested, the designers concluded that the level was a bit too complicated for a first level, so it was drastically changed. If the Dam were a later level, maybe some of the things would have been left the way they were.

The Island is quite a distance from the main Dam, so Bond had to get there by boat. The only boat screenshot is a fake, it was pasted from the Frigate's boat. I would assume that Bond got there in a boat though. Maybe it was the green boat that can be activated with a Gameshark. While you were at the island, you had to collect some objects, likely the bungee equipment and piton gun. Bond might have possibly had to destroy its alarm. I've heard lots of rumors.

Finally, the real deal about the island. At one stage in development, Bond actually had to destroy the drone gun on the island. This was done so that it could not shoot down the plane two levels later. This was a bit confusing, so the gun emplacements on the Runway were destroyed instead. I think that after the drone gun idea was scrapped, the idea of collecting the Bungee equipment on the island was included. Thanks to Dr. Doak's Goldeneye 007 Control Facility.

I also heard a bogus rumor that you had to fight Oddjob on the island. I know he wasn't there. The old Bond villains were made for the "Bonus" levels, that you earn after the game is completed on Secret, and 00 Agent. The levels have nothing to do with Goldeneye, and involve aspects from other Bond films.

For those of you who don't have a Gameshark, you can still see the island with a Sniper Rifle (will not be this clear, this pic was made with a GS no fog code 800214CF 7B18). You can make out the island, and shoot Rockets and Paintballs at it. That's all though. But... I heard a rumor that you can get there using the floating Tiny Bond Glitch on the stairs, somewhere. But, I assume that it's not possible.

Extra Information

With a Gameshark, you can access a few different item names, like the Flare Pistol, and a Piton Gun. I've found out that the piton gun is what Bond used in the movie, to reel himself into the Facility, after Bungee jumping. I now believe, that you had to go to the island to pick up the Bungee equipment and the piton gun.

You can also collect the Bungee item, in the Runway, it says "PICKED UP A NEW WEAPON", but on the inventory, it's listed as Bungee.

Codes:

Kill any guard in the Dam. But in Runway, must be the first guard, in the Runway building where you start off:

Dam: 811FA522 00XX (says you picked up a KF7 Soviet)

Runway: 801D9258 00XX (in Runway, it will actually say picked up ____)

Items: Replace XX with

23 - Flare Pistol

24 - Piton Gun

25 - Bungee

Notice how the numbers are 23, 24, and 25... they go in perfect order, likely, this was the order that you collected them.
